Rachel's House Family

The only way we are able to continue the transforming work of holistic ministry is through people like you, people who are willing to share their time, talents, and treasure.

When you join us, you will be joining hundreds of other volunteers—from marketing and communications professionals to youth mentors to family meal providers. Your skills can (and will!) be put to good use at Lower Lights. We accept and encourage involvement at all levels of Lower Lights Ministries.

Project AIM

In Franklinton, less than half of the adult population has a high school diploma. Lack of education contributes to a 28% unemployment rate. Project AIM (Achieving Interdependence through Mentoring) empowers our neighbors seeking to break cycles of poverty by focusing on the areas of employment, financial literacy, academic advancement and recovery. Female Mentors are especially needed.

Finance Mentors

2 hours, twice a month

Committed Finance Mentors strengthen individuals and families by helping them identify barriers, set goals, and determine resources that promote self-sufficiency. Finance Mentors help individuals create monthly spending plans and provide encouragement and accountability.

Adult Tutors

1 hour a week, flexible scheduling (daytime and evening opportunities available)

Walk alongside Franklinton adults as they work on basic skills, learn to read or pursue their GED.

Rachel's House

Rachel’s House provides female ex-offenders transitional housing and comprehensive services upon their release from prison giving them tools to make a positive impact in the community.

Spiritual Mentors

2 hours, 2-4 times a month

Spiritual Mentors walk alongside women through their journey at Rachel's House.

Finance Mentors

2 hours, twice a month

Committed Finance Mentors strengthen Rachel's House women by helping them identify barriers, set goals, and determine resources that promote self-sufficiency. Finance Mentors help individuals create monthly spending plans and provide encouragement and accountability.

Community Support Team Members

2 Hours, once a month

Community Support Teams (CS Teams) help women as they progress through each phase of the Rachel's House program. CS Teams provide critical support and encouragement as women set and achieve personal goals.

Bright Lights Kids

Fewer than 3 out of 10 children pass Reading and/or Math in 6th grade and our neighborhood truancy rates rank in the top 5 of Franklin County. Our individualized kids programs aim to strengthen youth and family relationships, increase social support and decrease anti-social behavior.

"Jesus didn't say, 'Blessed are those who care for the poor.' He said, 'Blessed are we where we are poor, where we are broken.' It is there that God loves us deeply and pulls us into deeper communion with Himself." ~ Henri Nouwen
