We host Urban Leadership Training to give back to those who give themselves to the community. These FREE trainings offer insights into what we've learned through our holistic ministry in Franklinton, equipping others to take the model into their own context. Lower Lights Ministries (LLM) partners with Lower Lights Community Church of the Nazarene  (LLCCON) to offer this opportunity.

Lessons from Urban Ministry - New Class!

Much of what many American churches are concerned about today isn't relevant within an urban church setting. Join us and find out what is important to the people of Lower Lights Community Church and what makes this community of believers so strong in their faith.

Instructor: Pastor Chuck Wilson, Lead Pastor, Lower Lights Community Church

Understanding Holistic Ministry

How does social ministry transcend "hand-outs?" This question and years of experience in Franklinton have been the catalyst to develop our comprehensive, relational, and effective approach. You will learn the guiding principles and practical applications of the Lower Lights way of doing community development.

Instructor: Jan Ruark, CEO, Lower Lights Ministries

SESSION 2 CLASS OPTIONS

Understanding Poverty

How does poverty impact learning, work habits, or decision-making in Franklinton and other urban communities? Do hidden "class rules" contribute to a person's ability to overcome barriers? We will explore ways to understand socioeconomic values and behaviors; and gain practical insight to improve effectiveness in working with people from different backgrounds.

Instructor: Emmalyn Jerome, Director of Rachel's House, Lower Lights Ministries

Understanding Mentoring

What does it really mean to "mentor" someone? How is it different than just being a friend? At Lower Lights Ministries, we have built many of our programs and supportive services around mentoring relationships and we have found it to be a vital component of holistic transformation. This session will help you define mentoring, learn some primary skills and hopefully avoid some common pitfalls in mentoring relationships.

Instructor: Jan Ruark, CEO, Lower Lights Ministries
