lessons From Urban Ministry

Pastor Chuck Wilson, Lead Pastor, Lower Lights Church

Class 1

9:20 - 10:40 am

Much of what many American churches are concerned about today isn't relevant within an urban church setting. Join us and find out what is important to the people of Lower Lights Community Church and what makes this community of believers so strong in their faith.

understanding holistic ministry

Jan Ruark, CEO, Lower Lights Ministries

Class 2

9:20 - 10:40 am

How does social ministry transcend "hand-outs?" This question and years of experience in Franklinton have been the catalyst to develop Lower Light's comprehensive, relational, and effective approach. You will learn the guiding principles and practical applications of the Lower Lights way of doing community development.

understanding poverty

Emmalyn Jerome, Director of Rachel's House - Lower Lights Ministries

Class 3

11:00 - 12:20 pm

How does poverty impact learning, work habits, or decision-making in Franklinton and other urban communities? We will explore ways to understand socioeconomic values and behaviors; and gain practical insight to improve effectiveness in working with people from different backgrounds.

understanding mentoring

Jan Ruark, CEO, Lower Lights Ministries

Class 4

11:00 - 12:20 pm

What does it really mean to "mentor" someone? How is it different than just being a friend? At Lower Lights Ministries, we have built many of our programs and supportive services around mentoring relationships and we have found it to be a vital component of holistic transformation.
