Franklinton Ready4K

Ready4K

Franklinton Ready4K (Ready4K) is a pre-kindergarten literacy initiative designed to enable parents/caregivers to prepare their child for reading as the child enters kindergarten. While the program works with the child directly, a distinguishing feature of Ready4K’s design is the emphasis on parent/caregiver coaching and education.

In 2008, David’s mother brought him to the Ready 4K program. His first assessment with us was 3 points below the targeted KRA-L score (11).  This past month (June 2012) one of our co-directors talked with his caregiver who spoke of David’s continued love of books —she credited it to Ready4K! After completing the program, not only was David more prepared to enter Kindergarten with a KRA-L score of 19, he also developed a love for reading that he displays 4 years later.

At present, approximately 70% of Franklinton children entering kindergarten do not have these necessary literacy skills and experiences (Mission Columbus assessment 2010). In direct contrast, 70% of children fully engaged with Ready4K will enter kindergarten equipped for success!
